A Journey of Passion: The Story of MKM Stylings

From a young age, my love for hair was ignited in the second grade. I would sit on the back of the couch, carefully placing butterfly clips and sparkly flower barrettes in my dad's hair, relishing the joy it brought me. It was this early play with hair that laid the foundation for my passion. Then one day, my brother's best friend came over with his sister, and I picked up a curling iron for the first time. I curled her hair, and in that moment, my love for styling was solidified. Each morning, I’d eagerly await my childhood friend's arrival, ready to curl her hair before school—until one day when I accidentally burned her! I promise, I've come a long way since then!

High school was a pivotal time for me. After enduring one of the worst haircuts of my life, I learned to French braid my bangs, which earned me the title of the designated French braider on my track team. In my early 20s, I took on the role of nanny for a family of four girls, each with hair cascading down their backs. Every day, I brushed, French braided, or curled their hair, eventually transforming those braids into whimsical updos, allowing my creativity to flourish.

In 2013, my high school best friend asked me to do her hair for her wedding. I eagerly accepted, and what started as one hairstyle quickly turned into doing the entire bridal party’s hair. The stress was palpable, but as I finished the last girl's hair, I couldn’t help but think, "Could you imagine doing this for a living?" I envisioned a world where brides could have their hair done in the comfort of their own homes rather than trudging to a salon—this was before on-site wedding hair had even become a trend.

Fast forward two years, and the concept was gaining traction. Inspired, I enrolled at the Aveda Institute to become licensed and pursue my dreams. Though my training encompassed a variety of techniques, bridal hair was not the primary focus. However, it instilled in me the confidence to chase my passion. During this time, I met a wonderful friend, Veronica, who invited me to assist her at booked weddings. I worked alongside her from 2015 to 2017, learning invaluable skills and gaining experience that shaped my journey.

Despite my dreams, I lacked the confidence to launch my own business right away. In 2020, as the world faced unprecedented challenges, I seized the opportunity to work with talented stylists and participate in creative style shoots. This experience helped me hone my skills and set the stage for my future.

Over the last four and a half years, I have dedicated myself to perfecting my craft and learning every facet of the industry to become the best stylist for my brides. Along the way, I have collaborated with incredible wedding vendors who inspire my creativity and drive my passion.

I absolutely love the mornings of wedding days. There's an indescribable magic in the air as everyone gathers to celebrate love, family, and friendship. The excitement of seeing a bride’s vision come to life, watching vendors transform a venue, and feeling the positive energy of the day fills me with joy. This career allows me to balance my professional aspirations with my role as a mother, giving me the freedom to chase my dreams while being present for my children.

I am truly grateful to the beautiful women who have trusted me on their most significant days. It is an honor to be a part of their journey, and I cherish every moment spent with them. As I look to the future, I promise to bring my best attitude, dedication, and passion to my work.
